The Great Gatsby-Behind the mask

I thought the movie was great. I'll admit that at times some of the characters seemed fake, or even insane (Jay). However, in the end it only helped to show how truly committed they were to their own happiness. I'm going to go against the curb here and say that my favorite character is Jay Gatsby. I like the fact that he was dedicated to being re-united with the love of his life and built himself a new life after the war which made him more successful than he could have ever dreamed. Daisy seems like a very fake character. I think its basically her interpretation of putting on a brave face with the whole "Tom" situation. Tom, he's just in a league all his own, racist, sexist, and a wife-beater, what more could you ask for right, but at least he's got money. I think all in all, the movie puts a very harsh reality on what some consider the American Dream. Just because you have money and power, doesn't mean you're happy. This is something I completely agree with.
